The shop is in a listed building, in a quaint old 16th century yard, between two pedestrianised shopping streets, close to the Market Square and town clock.

Alongside imported products from Italy and Spain, and a wide range of wines and champagnes, you'll find the best of British here too, from Tracklements condiments to Cottage Delight speciality products.

However, it's the artisan farmhouse cheeses (over 100 are stocked at any one time) that stand out, perhaps Wensleydale, Swaledale, Cotherstone and Northumbrian, as well as Richard Woodall's dry cured bacon, air dried ham and sausages, Rosebud preserves and Lindisfarne Mead and fruit wines.

Allow plenty of time to browse and order a hamper for that special occasion.
